Rainbow Bridge: An Adoption Story

My first children's book on adoption is available now on:

Rainbow Bridge is a book for parents to read to their children to let them know that they were adopted. It is intended to help children of all ages understand that they are special and that they were specifically chosen to be in their particular family. Even if the child is an infant, the book is meant to be read from the very beginning to allow the child’s parents to get used to verbalizing the word adoption. The other message of the book is that families come in all different color combinations. Whether you are all the same color, or a combination of many, that is what makes your family special.

About the Author:

Maria Kelmis was adopted from Greece at the age of fifteen months. She considers her adoption one of the best things that has happened in her life. Part of that is due to the way her parents told her right from the beginning. They surrounded the word adopted with special and loving words. That is why she has such a positive self-image related to her adoption, and it is why she wanted to share that with other adoptees. You can read the story of how she found her biological mother in the book Golden Strangers, also available through AuthorHouse.

Golden Strangers: An Adoption Memoir

My second book on adoption is available now on:

Maria Kelmis was adopted from Greece at the age of fifteen months. She always knew she was adopted and considers it one of the best things that happened in her life. Golden Strangers is a story about a journey to find her biological mother specifically to thank her and tell her that she had a wonderful life. You will experience the great moments in Maria's life that may not have happened if she was not adopted from Greece. Journey with Maria to San Diego, California, as a young lady out on her own for the first time, share her multiple visits to Greece including the months she spent on the island of Santorini painting, travel with her to Uganda, Africa, as she embarks on the experience of a lifetime, and share the excitement of participating in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Review of Golden Strangers :
I read this enchanting book through in one sitting! I am not adopted myself but I have several friends who - just like the author - consider themselves blessed to have been chosen by wonderful parents. Golden Strangers is the poignant, beautiful story of one woman's journey through the first 50 years of her life, including the touching story of how Maria Kelmis finally found her birth mother and older sister. In the early 60s, a single mother in Greece had to make the difficult decision to give up her second child, hoping her baby would have a better life in America. (Which Maria did.) Neither of the sisters knew the other existed, but her birth mother had always hoped and prayed that she would one day know what had become of her second baby daughter. This is a story to make one believe again in the powers of love, devotion, sacrifice and triumph over adversity. This is a great book for both adults and teens, and would make a thoughtful gift for anyone adopted or considering an adoption.

Review of Rainbow Bridge :
Our family was built through adoption and we love this story. It is a beautiful story that affirms that adoption is an act of love! My six year old loves to read it all by herself and likes the colorful pictures. When my 11 year old read it we ended up having some wonderful conversations about his own adoption. This book is a nice addition to our collection of adoption books that we enjoy reading with our kids.   -- S.N., San Diego, CA
All these events combined with her biological mother's sacrifice have made Maria thankful for all of the blessings in her life and have given her the desire to give back in so many ways; from working and volunteering with the Greek Orthodox Church, to helping the homeless, volunteering with autistic children, and becoming a certified life coach, thereby helping people with their life goals. This book is not only for people who share her story of adoption, it is for anyone who loves to hear a great story and believes in a power greater than all of us that makes things happen in our lives. If you have adopted a child or know of someone who has, you are encouraged to buy her children's book, Rainbow Bridge, which is a book for parents to read to their children of any age to let them know that they were adopted and that they are special and loved, also published by AuthorHouse.
